Dear
Friends,
Because of the important negotiations coming up at Copenhagen,
there is a wave of climate-related events coming up over the next six weeks --
culminating in "The Wave" in London on the 5th of December. We've been
sending out notices to particular areas about events in those areas, but have
now brought all those events --as well as several new ones -- together in
a summary list. The list also gives information about some of the many travel
options to "The Wave."
Please let us know of anything we've missed --
including other travel options for "The Wave." We won't send out another
general mailing of climate events, but we will notify people in particular areas
of events/travel arrangements in their locality. And please do continue to keep
the negotiations in your prayers. There are some resources mentioned at the end
of this list which can help you to do so.

November -- Oxford -- Oxfordshire's "Big Climate Event"
If you want to start a church

opportunity to learn. The event and workshops have been devised to respond to
the needs of groups old and new with the key aim of providing you and your
environmental group with the skills and knowledge to put projects into action on
the ground. The event will enable participants to:
* Meet other groups, learn from each other, strengthen
your work and share best practice *
Skill share of specific ideas to involve your community in carbon and waste
reduction * Provide inspiration, ideas
and support for starting up new projects and community groups * Showcase local agencies and organisations that can
provide help and support
There will be
workshops on topics such as community responses to Copenhagen, energy reduction
& eco-renovation projects, innovative waste reduction, local authorities
& climate change, community energy audits & thermal imaging, micro-hydro
projects, local food initiatives and the nuts and bolts of starting a group.
There will be a "church and community"
stall, being coordinated by Richard Riggs (A Rocha/SAGE). If you are already
doing something environmental and could offer him a "headline" and/or some
photos of your activities for the stall's display, he would appreciate it
hugely. Contact CCOW to get Richard's email. Click to register
online for the event. Places are limited, so register now to avoid

service (and rally)
Join the Archbishop of Canterbury, the
Archbishop of Westminster, the President and Vice-President of Methodist
Conference, other church leaders and thousands of Christians in the Westminster
Central Hall to pray for the Copenhagen climate talks and for the local and
global responses to climate change. United by our faith, with a deep concern for
the poor and for all creation, Christians from around the UK will come together
to worship and bring our concerns before God. The service will take place at
11:00 am and will last for about an hour. Activities for young people will
follow at 12:00 noon.
Participants in
the service are also warmly invited to follow church leaders in joining "The Wave" rally, a fun,
family-friendly march asking leaders to take urgent action on climate change by
protecting the poorest, acting "fair and fast" to cut emissions, and ending our
reliance on "dirty" coal (ie coal plants without carbon capture and storage).
The march will leave from Grosvenor Square at 1:00 and proceed to the Houses of
Parliament for 3:00 pm. It is sponsored by Stop Climate Chaos, which includes
agencies such as A Rocha, CAFOD, Christian Aid, Operation Noah, and Tearfund.
The theme of the march is the "blue" wave, so if you're coming, please do try to
wear something blue!
If you wish to
attend, there are the usual transport options. In addition:
(1) From
Northampton, Milton Keynes and Luton: CAFOD Northampton is organising a

for the service.
(4) From South Oxfordshire: There is a coach
going from Wallingford, with tickets for £10. There has also been interest in
potentially either getting a group booking on a train from Didcot (which saves
you 28%) or getting a mini-van/coach from the Didcot area. If you would be
interested in any of this, please contact maranda@ccow.org.uk.
(5) From
West Oxfordshire: David Jenkins, administrator for the Archdiocese of
Birmingham's Justice and Peace Commission, is working to organise a West
Oxfordshire coach. For information, contact maranda@ccow.org.uk.
5 or 6 or 13 December -- wherever you are! -- Prayer for
Copenhagen
Churches Together in Britain and Ireland
(CTBI) has prepared resources for a Climate Change Day of Prayer. The
resources include a selection of 82 readings -- prayers, Scripture texts,
meditations and brief case studies -- from which you can pick materials to use.
There are also service materials and sermon notes on the CTBI Creation in Crisis webpage. With this
wealth of material, it would be easy to offer anything from special
intercessions to a full service. So if you can't make "The Wave" service in
London, you can still do something in your church, either the Sunday before
Copenhagen or on the "middle Sunday" of the
negotiations.
13 December -- Copenhagen and parish churches all over Europe --
Service and Bell-Ringing
There will be an international ecumenical
service from Copenhagen Cathedral on the 13th of December at 2:00 pm, which will
be livestreamed to the internet and may be broadcast. The Archbishop of
Canterbury will preach. At the conclusion of that service at 3:00 pm,
churchbells will be rung 350 times (to draw attention to the level of carbon
dioxide in earth's atmosphere -- 350 parts per million-- that is regarded as
"safe" by many climate scientists) Churches everywhere are invited to join in.
