What is the Livesimply Project?
The livesimply project is based on a radical idea: that God calls us to live simply.
We are asked to look hard at our lifestyles, and to choose to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the poor.
It's not just about money. It's a challenge to reflect, celebrate and take action in order to work for justice, and to be happier in ourselves as a result. It's about seeking what we need rather than grasping for more, sharing not hoarding.
"You are not making a gift of what is yours to the poor, but you are giving them back what is theirs… The earth belongs to everyone, not to the rich." St Ambrose
How did it start?
The idea for livesimply comes from a prophetic document, written by Pope Paul VI.
"On the Development of Peoples" (Populorum Progressio) explains what the Church was saying about the growing poverty and injustice of the developing world.
Written in 1967, the messages are still loud and clear, as anyone who took part in last year's MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign will know:
"God intended the earth and everything in it for the use of all human beings and peoples."
It's a call for us to live a new kind of life, in solidarity with the community, motivated by faith.
The Livesimply promises:-
Do you want to make the world a better place for everyone? Then start here by making a livesimply:promise. Make a simple change in your life and get others to do the same!
We all know what it is like to feel powerless, that our own actions can't really change the things that we want to change. livesimply:promise will help beat that feeling by connecting you with other people who also want to make a change.
The latest livesimply:promises for you to join are as follows:

,
Happy New Year to
you.
liveSimply is changing, in
2010 we will be concentrating on two exciting projects, Catholic Social Teaching
(CST) and Youth and the General Election. A new website will be developed
dedicated to CST, bringing to life the key themes through stories, reflections,
resources and actions. This project will be lead by Progressio and Catherine
Waters-Clark has moved to Progressio to project manage the new website.
The liveSimply Youth Network
(LSYN), supported by 12 charities will be developing a youth resource for the
forthcoming general election. The Chair of LSYN, Richard Greenwood from Missio
will lead this project working closely with Fr. Martin Poulsom from the
liveSimply Executive
committee.
We are changing the way we work to deliver these projects,
there will no longer be a central co-ordination role supported through CAFOD's
office. If you would like to contact either Catherine or Richard with any
queries, please email catherine@livesimply.org.uk or missiontogether@missio.org.uk

Pax Christi document on Livesimply
Pope Paul VI wrote in Populorum Progressio that money spent on arms while schools, homes and hospitals remained unbuilt was “A theft from the poor” and “an intolerable cruelty”
Pax Christi’s livesimply brochure a theft from the poor is a useful guide to understanding the link between poverty and war.
