In partnership with our friends from St Chad’s Sanctuary including those who are asylum seekers from Syria and other countries. The vigil will include prayers and readings from both the Bible and the Koran. We shall use the medium of PowerPoint as well as live music and singing supported by Andy Ross (keyboards), and, hopefully cellos and flute. It is important that we create an ambience of prayer which embraces both Hope and Peace, as well as acknowledging the severity experienced by many who will be in attendance. The evening will provide an opportunity to circulate a ‘Wish List’ of urgent items for the Sanctuary, and a retiring collection will be taken for those who can afford to give, for the Sanctuary to purchase specific items. We shall also include details for contacting Caritas Birmingham. Refreshments will be served in the Grimshaw Room afterwards to allow hospitality and dialogue. Saturday the 10th of October: "How can I make a difference?" Christians acting on the climate will be taking place at Christ Church, Abingdon, which isn't actually in Birmingham Archdiocese but which will be relevant for a number of the Oxford North and Oxford South Deanery churches? Sponsored by the Diocese of Oxford, Hope for the Future, and CCOW, it gives a chance to share ideas, hear about what's happening nationally and locally, and discover resources for engaging your church and your community.
