People and the planet? Or profit?
It doesn’t have to be an either-or question.
UK companies create jobs and opportunities for people around the world.
But we also know it’s too easy for UK companies working in poorer countries to harm the environment and abuse people’s basic rights in ways they’d never dream of in the UK.
Take Equatorial Palm Oil (EPO) – a UK company. They promised jobs, healthcare and education to communities in Liberia whose land they wanted to turn into a palm oil plantation. EPO broke those promises.
That’s just one example of a story that’s far too common.
It’s too easy for UK companies to grab precious land, break promises, and divide communities in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Take action now!
There is something we can do together to help.
UK companies like EPO have to comply with UK law.
So we’re calling for a new law to stop UK companies from violating people’s basic rights or damaging the environment.
It’d be much easier for people whose human rights are violated by a UK company to hold them accountable in court.
This would be an enormous change – reining in the worst behaviour of UK companies. We can be part of this change.
Let’s make sure the government hears why they must make this happen!

UK companies create jobs and opportunities. But they must also respect people's rights and the environment.
